Healthcare and Insurance

Norway’s health care system offers both primary and specialist healthcare. The former comes under the purview of the municipalities around Norway and include general practitioners. Specialist healthcare is provided in both public and private treatment centres and hospitals.

Norway’s universal health coverage is called the National Insurance Scheme (Folketrygd). Funded by general taxes and contributions from both employers and employees, it provides access to subsidised healthcare and other benefits.
